Diamond targets are mainly used for microfocus tubes in transmission geometry. With their help, the brilliance of these X-ray tubes can be significantly increased. However, a significant increase in performance is also possible with reflection or direct beam tubes. Due to the extremely high thermal conductivity, the heat from thin tungsten layers can be dissipated very efficiently, so that even at high heat flux densities, the melting of the target material can be prevented.
